So, I colored my hair with TEMPORARY color a couple weeks ago. I had been agonizing over the gray so I thought I would try a temporary solution.
Turns out i did not like the all brown hair as much as I thought I would. The temporary color is almost out and the gray is coming in and I am HAPPY about it. Who'da thought.
As many people in my situation, I am nervous about cutting off all the colored hair and leaving me with short gray hair. I LOVE those hairstyles. But i think not for me. For now, I am choosing to let it grow out. My hair is about shoulder length and the gray roots are 2-21/2 inches now. Maybe when the roots are another inch or two I'll cut it off...
I think i'm going to make it.... how about you???

Interesting development
I've been fantasizing for weeks about coloring my hair all brown again.
So today i did it!
i bought a temporary hair color product
used it this morning
i did a good job
but, ya know, i don't like the brunette either.
it doesn't look natural.
interesting.
i think i am more ready to be gray than i had thought.
I am curious to see what i think when the dye wears off...

I want to color the gray!!!
Wow.
Woman overboard.
I haven't had this urge for months. But i want to color over my gray and be brown haired again. I have about two inches of gray roots now. Very gray. quite a beautiful silvery-gray. But for some reason, today, I want to color it, be brown-haired again like before.
This too shall pass.

Gray Rebels needed...
Gray hair.
Try it
Don't dye it.
Here's what we do. We want to stop coloring our hair - for various reasons. Some because we don't want to use the chemicals any more, some because we can't afford it. Well, let's use this opportunity to our advantage.
Send me your story about why you want to stop coloring your hair and what project or issue you'd like to work on during that journey. If your story is chosen for publication in my book, I will pay you $25.00. That PLUS you get to be involved with this amazing movement!
The idea is then that 50% of the profits from the book will be used to give small grants for projects to women who are making a difference in the world. This plan is, of course, subject to change and enhancement and woo hoo.

The Challenge - Save the World
[First the disclaimer: If you like coloring over your gray hair and don't want to change, then you shouldn't. This post is not meant for you. I'm not saying everyone should stop coloring their hair. If you like it, rock on!...however, you can also participate in the challenge!]
Ok, saving the world IS a big challenge. But we can do it.
If you WANT to quit coloring over your gray hair, but are nervous or uncomfortable about it, come on in ! Let's take all the time, energy and expense we put into coloring our hair and use it for something else. Something good. We can change the world, one gray head at a time. Think of the energy, determination and passion we could put into motion!
What is it that you've always wanted to do, or a cause you've always wanted to help. While your gray is growing in, use all the energy and anxiety you might have about your hair looking kinda "funky" and funnel it into a project or issue of your choice. The idea is to get our minds off of our hair and onto something that really matters. It has worked for me so far. I've been growing out my gray for about 3 months, I have about 1 1/2 inches of gray roots. Sure people look at my hair and think whatever it is they are going to think. I actually don't care, because I am charged up about the project I am working on.
Let's say NO to peer pressure !
Let's make our OWN cultural norm !

Peer pressure in our 50s? Really?
Why do we still succumb to peer pressure in our 40s, 50, 60s, etc.? You'd think we'd be beyond that by now.
A couple years ago, a former coworker said to me "you'd look ten years younger if you colored your hair". At first I was unaffected by her comment. But it silently began to eat away at me. A couple months later, I went to the hair stylist for a hair cut. She said "hey, why don't you do some lowlights and that will cover up some of this gray?" YES, I said, let's do it! I gave in. I caved. Yes, I wanted to look 10 years younger.
WHY? Why did I want look ten years younger? It was nice for a while. Fun. Afterall, I looked ten years younger! Many people commented on how fabulous my hair looked and how good it was to get rid of the gray.
WHY? Why is it good to get rid of the gray? I agreed with them at the time, but now I'm not sure. Why do people feel it's ok to comment about your gray hair and that you should get rid of it.
Our culture is very youth oriented. It is time we say no. We can look our age, our hair can be the color it naturally is, our bodies can look the way they naturally look. We can be more comfortable. There are many more important things to worry about in the world than what color our hair is.

Power Gray !
"Power Gray: It’s not your mother’s soft, silvery tresses. It’s a fashion statement with a purpose. It takes the ultimate symbol of aging — gray hair — and literally stands it on its head, declaring it an asset rather than something to be colored away. It allows the wearer, when walking into the room, to subliminally convey the notion: 'You think growing older is a bad thing? Think again.' "
